Why come to Tamworth?

Tamworth is a very attractive regional city boasting a cosmopolitan lifestyle in a delightful rural setting. Very easy to get to with a range of affordable accommodation options to suit every desire and budget.

Tamworth is accessible by air (Qantaslink and Virgin from Sydney, JetGo from Brisbane) and by rail (a daily service from Sydney with links to and from Armidale and Moree).

By car, it's just on 400 kilometres from Sydney via a pleasant drive on the Pacific and New England Highways, including more than 100 kilometres of freeway (M1 and Hunter Expressway) and less than 300 kilometres from Newcastle.

The Tamworth Region has a population in the order of 50,000 with services to match, including a new regional base hospital, three major shopping centres and one of the most attractive main streets in all of Australia.

The city has a major event centre (the Tamworth Regional Entertainment Centre), a national horse sports (and other) event centre (Australian Equine & Livestock Events Centre) and a number of major registered clubs. Our conference is being held at the biggest registered club in Tamworth, West Tamworth Leagues.

Among the city's many other attractions, Tamworth has a botanical gardens, a bicentennial park, two public swimming pools, a wildlife park and an (almost complete) adventure playground.

Tamworth was the first municipality in the southern hemisphere to have electric street lighting (1888). The city had its own power station for many years and a local museum (located in the first power station) celebrates the city's rich electrical history.

For more than 40 years now, Tamworth has been promoted as Australia's Country Music Capital and now attracts more than 50,000 visitors annually to the biggest country music festival in the southern hemisphere, and second biggest in the world, each January.

To celebrate our country music history, Tamworth has a country music wax museum and the Australian Country Music Hall of Fame, both open to the public.
